It's been about a year since I started replacing my soil with Mother Soil. Most of my plants are now potted in it.
This soil is excellent for growing fine roots, which are more efficient at absorbing nutrients.
However, if you have been using chunky potting mix, you need to pay close attention to pot size, especially when using Mother Soil with plants on a moss pole. Because Mother Soil retains water longer than chunky mixes, it is easy to keep the medium consistently too wet.
I recently repotted a Cebu Blue pothos that had been growing in a chunky potting mix. It had an issue where older leaves consistently yellowed whenever a new leaf emerged, despite adequate light and regular fertilization.
When I repotted it into Mother Soil, I noticed it had very few fine roots. After about a month, new leaves stopped yellowing.

This is truly the best soil I’ve ever used. Worth every cent. I don’t have to worry anymore that a new plant won’t survive after I bring it home and repot. There is no guess work.
Even my mature plants are blowing up with new growth way past growing season!
The ficus pictured lost all its leaves and was a stem. I topped it with mother soil and I have growth all down the stem now.
I repotted a Big Box Store Thai Con in Mother, and within three weeks, its roots had grown out of the bottom and top of the plant, and it was completely root-bound. Absolutely amazing soil!
Here is hard evidence my plants are so happy in Mother Soul…I have over 150 plants & gradually I am repotting them all. I recently propagated about 30 clippings from my miniature Elephant Bush & here are results plus a small sample of my plants in Mother Soil.
I have now ordered four times from Mother Soil and I’m obsessed! I sometimes put a layer right on top of already potted plants and others I use it with other soils or by itself - every plant that has just a drop of this soil has been thriving! Thank you for helping my plants to live their best lives :)
I plant pretty much everything in this stuff. It looks good it holds up well, the plants seem to be quiet happy in it. I even did a trial of trying to grow string of heart clippings in Mother and in peat moss as suggested on various links I found. The clippings in Mother has taken off much better and I did all the same things for both trial groups. I haven't found a plant that doesn't love it. Even my Meyer lemon tree is flowering and happy. The coolest thing is I even got a hand written thank you card for my continued support. In a rough world it is nice to have happy plants and kind words to surround me
When repotting plants they go through a lot of stress. The soil is the perfect consistency to let roots develop and breath, and help plants recover faster. The soil itself looks amazing. Dark and rich. It’s actually pretty. Retains moisture with being soggy and causing rot. Perfect for trapicals.
I bought this a few months ago and wanted to see how well it worked before writing this review. All I will say is my plants have never been happier and all has been thriving. I have not always done well with plants and I decided to give Mother soil a try. I'm also glad I did. My plants continue to flourish.
I just divided several plants and repotted in Mother Soil. Can’t wait to see them flourish!
Before mother soil, I was always getting it wrong when planting my plants and flower. Mother soil turned me from a black thumb to a green thumb. Everything you need is in this magical soil. I don't even fertilize anymore. My plants love Mother Soil!
I ordered 1 bag around 2 months ago. 2 weeks later, I ordered 6 bags. I just ordered 6 more! I am amazed at how my plants have "bounced" back from the neglect. (I was bed ridden for 5-6 months.) Everything was infested, dried out, and/or leggy.
The first bag I used on my two favorites before I lost them. Within the week they had propagated several leaves and new shoots were present! Naturally, my next order went outside to the GARDEN ! One week my mustard was bigger than I've EVER seen! See pic. 1st pic after planting 1 1/2 weeks, then 3 weeks later. (Notice deer running away. She just ate everything as I went to take this today !!! 😒) The other plant is at 2 weeks and 5 weeks!
I'm finally going to live in my own jungle!!!
I potted an alocasia that was in water for quite a while. And it has already gave me a new leaf. I absolutely love this soil
I knew to collecting plants. Over the last 12 months I’ve accumulated around 70 plants and tried many different soils. Mother soil is the best soil I’ve found for repotting, propagating, and supplementing. It is such rich, beautiful soil, and my plants have been very happy since I’ve been using it!
As a plant novice, but with a Type A personality, I have struggled to find the best soil for my growing houseplant collection. When two of my beloved plants started to take a turn for the worse, and I couldn’t figure out why, I decided to repot them and searched for the perfect soil. I happened upon Mother Soil and haven’t looked back. Not only are those two houseplants THRIVING now, but I have grown my collection and every single one of my “green babies” are flourishing. I love everything about Mother Soil and the product truly speaks for itself. I will never purchase another soil for my houseplants ever again.
I sewed some wildflower seeds in Mother Soil (indoors) that said they take 2-4 weeks to germinate. 3 days later I had so many inch long sprouts! I’m thrilled.
Hands down the quickest I have ever seen a soil change the condition of a plant. The results are astounding - new growth, deep shiny leaves, new flowers. Changed in weeks, not months. Its my first suggestion to a houseplant lover who struggles because they don't know when to water. Thanks Mother Team!
I keep buying it again and again. The soil is great and very forgiving to my plants. It makes up for what I lack in green thumb.
Absolutely recommend mother soil, it does what it promises and that's it! Is hard to find a soil this good at this price point so I was very very happy with the results! Will definitely stock up!
Mother Soil for my plants has been like a can of spinach to the cartoon sailor, Popeye!
My epipremnum pinnatum albo (variegated cebu blue) needed a repot to a bigger vessel after just a little over a month, and has been growing so consistently for the past year- and I had this plant potted in Mother Soil since the day I purchased the little guy! I absolutely love the darker tones of the biochar soil, and it holds water really well. I have a tendency to underwater my plants lately, and Mother Soil is an ideal for that habit.
The folks working at Mother Soil have been so helpful, informative, and encouraging as well.
See my progress photos for yourself!
Mother Soil has been an unbelievable source of nutrition and growth for my plants. I consider it a "superfood" and it's now my go-to soil.
Before using Mother Soil I did not realize how bad other soils on the market were. In just 3 weeks of using Mother, I saw my healthy plants getting healthier, and my unhealthy plants sprouting new, healthy growth.
The attached picture is of a plant that was struggling ever since I got it. The leaves were turning yellow, the plant wasn't growing, and whatever I tried it was not showing signs of improvement. I decided to switch the soil to Mother Soil and within 3 weeks I saw new, healthy growth.
Customer service has also been great. Really happy with my experience!
Thanks Mother Soil!!
I am far from having a green thumb, and although I have plants around my house they usually just barely survive (and definitely aren’t thriving). I tried Mother Soil though and it’s given new life to all my plants. Sharing a before and after of one that, within just a few days, seemed like it was a completely new plant - healthy and vibrant. All my house plants use Mother now and despite my lack of green thumb, it’s been a game changer!
I was intrigued when I saw an ad for this soil and decided to give it a try. Every plant I’ve used Mother Soil with has thrived! Even my calathea is loving being in Mother Soil (with ambient humidity) with no signs of stress or crisping. It’s also great for top-dressing your plants too!
I’ve already ordered 2 more bags!
My plant was gifted to me and arrived looking beautiful but within a month started to droop and lose its color, even had leaves start to turn brown. Within just a couple of weeks (if that) my plant came back to life - it was amazing!
I repotted as many plants as I could with Mother and those are visibly healthier. The soil was easy to work with, and my plants took to the soil nicely, and I already have new growth on a plant that has not any in over a year!
